Three UK Rolls Out New Facebook and Twitter-Friendly Music Store

Three UK company has launched  a new Facebook and Twitter-friendly store dedicated to music to provide for its mobile phone customers due to the huge success of the Android-based handsets.

FoneStarz Media forefronts the The Three music shop which lets people download music tracks directly onto their phones. At the same time it automatically updates a customer’s status on Twitter and Facebook by supplying it the latest music purchased.

The online store presents music in the market from all the most important and  independent record labels such as Sony, Universal, Warner, EMI and Vidzone.  My Music Club is also incorporated in  a section that promotes special offers and promotional projects. This newly inaugurated music store   allows customers on Three’s award-winning mobile Internet network to source the latest music tracks from their telephones. Clients have access to the online store by means of Three’s mobile phone portal and clicking on to Three music store.

Neil Andrews of Three UK Head of Media Sales and Content Services is quoted as saying,

“Thanks to Three’s high-speed mobile Internet network, it is even easier for customers to download music tracks to their mobile phone wherever they are. The service has proven that people are keen to recommend music amongst their friends on Facebook and Twitter, giving access to a wider range of music than ever before.”

The music shop, since December, has provided services on Android handsets on the Three network  and is delivered by FoneStarz which is a part of U.S.-based Livewire Mobile, Inc.  Three UK and this company worked in conjunction in the past when running a series of content related services.  Apple OS or WP7 customers are not able to connect though to a full service.

Dave Moreau, Livewire Mobile’s COO has stated, “The new store has been extremely well received by Three UK’s Android customers. The level of sales of music tracks we are seeing shows how much smartphone customers are tuned in to browser-based portals, especially when the merchandising is right.

“Three UK gives its customers one of the best mobile entertainment experiences and we’re proud to be part of that success story.”

Susie Lucas who is Universal Head of Mobile volunteered “It’s great to see Three developing the music store and launching its service on the Android Platform. This is another illustration of the demand for music in the UK market”.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 completely lives up to its promise of a superphone. The X10 Mini is exactly what the name indicates – a smaller version of the X10. The original X10 is a spectacular Android phone although it is quite  large, so a mini version must be a good thing or hasn’t it?

The X10 Mini design is identical to its big brother even down to the three silver buttons under the screen. It is a considerably smaller phone and weighs a svelte 88g that provides a very compact and lightweight device. Maybe the lightest and most compact smartphone available on the market. Indeed it’s tiny even when compared to non-smartphones. Sony Ericsson states Mini and they certainly do mean what they say!

Small and compact dimensions comes at a price – a tiny screen. It’s a mere 2.55 inches  and this makes it perhaps the smallest touch screen  ever used.

Unfortunately this  fact doesn’t aid to make the phone easy to handle. Although the bright and sharp screen has an acceptable resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, it’s just physically too small capture sufficient images on the screen.  Even enough space for a virtual QWERTY keyboard is not possible. The icons and buttons though are large enough to press and the very responsive capacitive screen does assist adequately. Sony Ericsson’s interface screens is excellent, such as Timescape, which joins together Facebook updates, tweets, texts and missed calls so you  have no need to keep moving from app to app.

Facebook and Twitter apps work very well. The logically displayed screen  with icons in all four corners provides you one-touch access to user-defined functions such as music, camera, contacts, etc.

Customise the layout and add widgets to your screens is not difficult although there isn’t sufficient space to add too  many. Android and Sony Ericsson’s customisations certainly make a lot out of the small screen focus although even more is desired. The struggle is greater on a bright and sunny day. The small screen  tends to make the phone feel somewhat toy-like. Some users perhaps discover  it to be  small to hold when phoning. This is of course an unavoidable result of making the device physically petite so you have to consider advantages vs  disadvantages.

What else does this super-compact smartphone offer? It offers a 5 mega pixel camera with autofocus and flash. It records video at VGA resolution plus a video light although it doesn’t sustain video calling.

An excellent media player is included in the X10 Mini with a 3.5mm audio jack so that you can use your own headphones. Support for Bluetooth stereo headphones is incorporated. You can search for a song on Google or Youtube with one single click. Included in the package are an FM radio with RDS. TrackID (search for the name of a song) and PlayNow (download ringtones, etc) are available also.

Value for money to start with is the built-in memory of 128MB to which you can add microSD memory cards of up to 16GB. A 2GB card is part of the deal.

5 star rating in connectivity is our view with WiFi, Bluetooth, USB and a 3.5mm audio jack. The mobile has fast internet access over 3G with HSPA affording a maximum download speed of 7.2 Mbps.

The phone is in sync  with your PC  including syncing your email with Microsoft® Exchange email server. However the Android system really desperately wants to sync with Gmail. Web browsing isn’t a terrible experience in spite of the small screen but you’ll find yourself scrolling up and down and zooming in and out rather too much. Zooming isn’t as simple as you would like because it means clicking zoom buttons because it has  no pinch-to-zoom capability. There’s no Flash support either. Mind you the upside is that YouTube videos are fully supported via a dedicated app.

The battery lasts sufficient time because the tiny screen  helps to conserve energy and it should last a couple of days’ use between charges. Remember though that the battery is not able to be replaced. The processor is a 600 MHz Qualcomm CPU and not the fastest on the market. However,it is sufficiently fast for the screen size. You will discover that the X10 Mini responds avidly to your touch.

In summary the X10 Mini is a super-compact smartphone that gets top rating for overall look and “cute” appeal and punches of buttons with plenty of high-spec features.

3 Mobile iPad SIM Cards Reviewed

You can get the iPad in two different versions, one which is only enabled for Wi-Fi connectivity and a more advances model which can also connect to 3G networks. If you want the 3G iPad, you will need a micro SIM card which allows you to connect to the Internet on the move, where you may not be able to access a Wi-Fi network.

3 have now released packages for the 3G iPad, and they seem to offer the best deals for this device in terms of data allowance and price. You can either get a SIM card on a PAYG basis from 3UK, or sign up to a rolling monthly contract.

The pay as you go SIMs offer 1GB of data at a price of £10. They are only good for the advertised month, and any data you don’t use in that time is lost. For heavier users, the other option might be a better idea. At a one-off price of £20, you get 3GB of data, which is available to use for three months rather than just one.

For those who need a particularly large data allowance, a rolling monthly contract is the solution. £7.50 per month gets you 1GB, while £15 gives you 10GB, which should be enough for anyone’s mobile Internet needs, be they watching videos, updating Facebook or downloading.

If you’re asking us, the contract is the best possible deal; these are rolling contracts, which means that you can give a month’s notice to terminate, a customer-friendly condition of Apple’s in their negotiations with UK mobile operators. You’re paying less than the PAYG brigade and you’re only tied down for a month at a time. It’s no surprise that the Mobile 3G SIM cards are selling as well as they are.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini is yet another superior release with a load of exciting features and capabilities. As the name suggests, this model introduced several changes to the X10 model which was a notably large android phone.

Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini is as such a light weight model weighing only 88 g and is easily the lightest Smartphone in the market today. It comes with the three buttons below the screen that characterised the X10 model.

The only trade-off involved with the Smartphone is the small size of the screen which has to be the case considering its size; it’s only 2.55 inches which gains this Smartphone model the title of the smallest Smartphone ever. The small size renders it not the most convenient to use even though the Smartphone comes with great resolution of 240X320. Nonetheless it has a sharp and clear display.

The responsive screen as well as the big buttons and icons makes up for the small size which makes it impossible to use the QWERTY keyboard. The Smartphone eliminates the need to toggle between various apps with the Timescape which makes it easy to update your facebook status, send tweets and texts and access your missed calls all in one place and the well planned user interface sums up user convenience. It allows one touch access to the various functions such as music, contacts, and camera among others and it is flexible enough to allow you to add the widgets you desire as well as customise the look to your preferences.
This super compact Smartphone also comes with a 5 megapixel camera equipped with flash and autofocus among other features. Although the camera doesn’t support video calling, it can record videos at VGA resolution.

As for music, the Smartphone comes with a built-in memory of 128 mega bytes and allows the users to add a Micro SD card if the so desire to increase the storage space. The sales package also includes a 2GB MicroSD card to get you started saving your favourite music and media files and if you want to play them, you can use the nifty media player that comes with the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Smartphone. If you would rather play the music on your earphones, the 3.5 mm audio jack comes in handy. Otherwise you can just use Bluetooth stereo headphones which are as well supported. Highlighting the entertainment capabilities of the Smartphone is the FM radio with RDS.

Not forgetting the importance of the internet in modern world, the Smartphone comes with full support for Wi-Fi and 3G up to a speed of 7.2 Mbps and the in-built app makes accessing You Tube videos a breeze even though flash is not supported.
